Syracuse Mets News Release
Charlotte, NC - The Syracuse Mets fell behind early and never rallied in a 6-1 loss to the Charlotte Knights on Thursday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Charlotte (38-33) jumped out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first. Jon Jay singled, and Matt Skole walked. Paulo Orlando then doubled to center field to score Jay for a 1-0 lead. Daniel Palka followed with a single, bringing home Skole to make the score 2-0. Two batters later, Danny Mendick doubled to left to plate two more runs and give Charlotte a 4-0 advantage.
The Knights added two more in the fourth. Alcides Escobar singled, Mendick walked, and Adam Engel walked to load the bases with two outs. Jay followed with a two-run single to push the Charlotte lead to 6-0
Syracuse (35-37) scored its only run in the top of the fifth. Arismendy Alcantara doubled to lead off the inning, moved to third base on a Tim Tebow groundout, and scored on a Luis Guillorme sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to five, 6-1. That was as close as Syracuse got though.
The Mets continue their six-day road trip with the first game of a three-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers on Friday night. RHP Chris Mazza will be on the mound for Syracuse against RHP Bryse Wilson for Gwinnett. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
