Swanson Fans 11, Leads Thunder Past Senators
April 23, 2018 - Eastern League (EL1)
Trenton Thunder News Release
Erik Swanson struck out a career-high 11 batters over seven innings to lead the Thunder to a 3-1 win over the Harrisburg Senators on Monday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.
Swanson struck out six of the first eight batters he faced, and allowed just three hits and one walk in the longest outing by a Thunder starter this season.
The Thunder scored all their runs in the first inning off right-hander Jefry Rodriguez. Gosuke Katoh drew a leadoff walk and scored two batters later on a Matt Snyder single up the middle. After a Jhalan Jackson single, Snyder and Jackson pulled off a double steal, and both scored on a double to left-center by Bruce Caldwell.
Rodriguez went on to allow just one hit over his final five innings before Roman Mendez pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
Thunder reliever Caleb Frare allowed two men to reach base in both the eighth and ninth innings, but stranded the runners in both instances to earn his second save and complete Trenton's third consecutive win.
Your Thunder continue their homestand on Tuesday night at 7pm against the Senators. RHP Brian Keller (0-2, 7.84) will start for the Thunder, while RHP Jaron Long (1-1, 2.25) will go for Harrisburg. Fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero for Superhero Night, presented by Marvel Studios' Avengers Infinity War. Dollar hot dogs will be available, and kids 12 and under eat free for Super Value Tuesdays. Tickets are available by phone at 609-394-3300 or online at TrentonThunder.com.
