Biggio Keeps Blasting But Fisher Cats Fall in Binghamton
April 23, 2018 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The third home run in as many days for Cavan Biggio and a two for four performance from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. weren't enough for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) Monday night as they fell 8-5 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets) at NYSEG Stadium.
Fisher Cats starter Francisco Rios didn't escape the first. The right-hander faced eight batters, gave up six runs on five hits and walked two while recording just one out.
Biggio's blast came on the second pitch of the fourth inning and was followed by Max Pentecost's second home run of the season, the first time New Hampshire has hit back-to-back home runs in 2018. The home runs were a part of a three-run frame that cut the 'Ponies lead to three.
Vlad Jr.'s second hit of the game came with two outs in the sixth, when he doubled home a pair to make it 7-5 Binghamton. He leads the Eastern League with 17 runs batted in.
New Hampshire loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth to bring the go-ahead run to the plate but came up empty in what was an 8-5 loss to the Rumble Ponies.
Conor Fisk was excellent in long relief, tossing three shutout innings between the first and the fourth. Andrew Case pitched two frames of scoreless relief as well.
The series continues tomorrow night in Binghamton. RHP Jordan Romano will go for the 'Cats while RHP Andrew Church is set to start for the Rumble Ponies. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. and can be heard on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
The team returns to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Friday, April 27 for the first of three games against the Trenton Thunder. Highlights of the upcoming homestand include 80s Hits Atlas Fireworks on April 28, Kids Run The Bases presented by the New Hampshire State Liquor Commission, Division of Enforcement on April 29, Tall Boy Tuesday featuring $5 Miller, Coors and Twisted Tea before first pitch on May 1 and Education Day presented by EnergyNorth Propane - featuring a special 10:35 a.m. start - on Wednesday, May 2.
