
Sea Dogs Extra Effort Falls Short, 4-3 Loss in 11 at Hartford

Hartford, CT - Hartford catcher Chris Rabago nailed an RBI single in the 11th inning, giving Hartford a 4-3, walk-off win over the Portland Sea Dogs (6-10) on Monday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park. The Yard Goats (8-9) have won four straight, and Portland dropped their third in a row.
Portland trailed 2-0, but tied the game with sacrifice flies in the fifth inning by Austin Rei and in the ninth by Tate Matheny. In the 10th inning, Portland took a 3-2 lead on a run-scoring single by Jeremy Rivera.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, Cole Sturgeon made his third terrific catch in centerfield, robbing Brendan Rodgers of extra bases. Rodgers ended up with a sac-fly to tie the game at three. In the bottom of the third Sturgeon took away a hit from Rodgers, which ended up being a sacrifice fly for the first run of the series.
Hartford's Logan Cozart, the sixth pitcher of the game, worked the final two innings to earn the win. Trevor Kelley suffered his first loss of the year, allowing one run (unearned) in just 1/3 of an inning.
Rivera finished 2-for-4 with his 5 RBI of the season against Hartford. Josh Tobias added two hits for the Sea Dogs.
Portland's Kevin McAvoy (ND) worked five innings on six hits, two runs, two walks and six strikeouts. Hartford starter Jack Wynkoop fired six strong innings on five hits and one run.
The Sea Dogs have dropped three of five to Hartford and eight of 10 on the road.
The Sea Dogs and Hartford Yard Goats (Rockies affiliate) meet in the middle game of their three-game series on Tuesday night beginning at 7:05 PM. Righty Teddy Stankiewicz (1-2, 8.16) makes his fourth appearance of the year for Portland. Hartford sends Ryan Castellani (1-1, 2.20) to the hill.
