Davidson with Strong Debut in 3-1 Loss to Trenton
April 23, 2018 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Trenton Thunder defeated the Harrisburg Senators 3-1 in the series opener Monday night at ARM & HAMMER Park. The Senators dropped their fourth consecutive game despite three hits by Austin Davidson in his Double-A debut.
Trenton scored all three of their runs in the first. After a single and stolen base by the leadoff batter Gosuke Katoh, Matt Snyder knocked an RBI single to put Trenton up 1-0. Two batters later, with two runners on, Bruce Caldwell lined a two RBI double to expand the lead to 3-0.
Trenton starter Erik Swanson faced the minimum through three innings, but the Senators were able to get on the board in the fourth. Daniel Johnson tripled to lead off the inning and the next batter, Yadiel Hernandez,
drove him home with a run scoring ground out to shortstop.
That was all that Swanson (4-0) would allow on just three hits across seven innings while striking out 11 Senators.
Rodriguez (1-1) shutout the Thunder following the three-run first. The right-hander allowed three runs on four hits across six innings and struck out eight, one shy of tying his career-high.
Roman Mendez followed with two scoreless innings and allowed just one hit as Senators pitchers tied a season-low with just five hits allowed.
The Senators had runners at second and third in the ninth following a walk, single and a balk, but reliever Caleb Frarer induced a game-ending ground out by Austin Davidson to earn his second save and cement the 3-1 Trenton win.
Davidson, who was making his Senators debut after being added to the roster earlier in the day, finished the game 3-4 which ties a Senators season-high in hits.
The Senators try to even the series Tuesday night. Jaron Long starts for the Senators opposite Thunder starter Brian Keller. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at ARM & HAMMER Park. The game can be heard on CBS Sports Radio 95.3 FM, 96.5 FM and 1400 AM.
