Surma Traded to Dayton for Boivert
February 7, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE IN.--- Continuing to take an active role in Monday's Central Hockey League trade deadline while at the same time addressing their present roster for the rest of this current season and for the 2011-12 CHL campaign, the Evansville IceMen completed their second transaction prior to the actual trade deadline.
On this date, the IceMen General Manager/Coach Rich Kromm has announced that the IceMen have completed a three-player deal with the Dayton Gems. In Evansville's latest player transaction, the club has obtained high-scoring rookie left wing ERIK BOISVERT and a player to be named at the end of the current season in exchange for veteran center DAMIAN SURMA. The deal takes effect immediately with both players reporting to their new teams this week.
BOISVERT, 24, is in his first pro season and he brings to the IceMen some outstanding credentials not only on the professional level but also through an exemplary four-year collegiate career at Sacred Heart University located in Fairfield, CT.
The speedy 5-9, 170lb left wing has made an indelible impression in his first-ever pro season with the Dayton club. Evansville's newest acquisition is currently ranked a lofty fourth in CHL Rookie Scoring with 26-points in 41-games on 12-goals, 14-assists with 20-PIM. His 12-goals rank as third most among league rookies while his 6-PPG topped the Gems and ranked #2 in the league among this year's freshmen class. The Drummondville, PQ prodigy also led Dayton in total power play points with 11.
Possessing game-breaking, breakaway speed, Boisvert enjoyed a masterful pro debut. In his first-ever pro game, back on opening night, October 16th, he delivered the late, third period tie-breaking and ultimate GWG in the Gems 3-1 victory verdict over the IceMen at Hara Arena.
Prior to his pro premiere this year. Boisvert starred at Sacred Heart U. in a dynamic and distinguished 4-year career. In his last 3-seasons there, in 109-games, he amassed 93-points on 39-goals and 54-assists.
Boisvert comes from some rich hockey heritage as his father, Serge Boisvert played in the NHL for both the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens.
SURMA, 30, is in his 10th pro season and his first in Evansville with the IceMen, was the team's third leading scorer this season with 43(22-15-37). His 22-goals were foremost on the club. He also added 5-PPG, 6-PPA and 3-GWG.
He is a former sixth round draft choice of the NHL Carolina Hurricanes and was one of the players the IceMen signed from the IHL Muskegon roster of 2009-10.
As an integral part of today's trade, the IceMen also will be in receipt of future considerations from the Gems to officially complete the deal with the conclusion of the current campaign.
Both players, Boisvert and Surma will report to their new teams effective immediately and will make their respective debuts against their former teams on Friday night when the IceMen play host to Dayton at 7:30 pm at Evansville's Swonder Ice Arena.
