Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
THE SKINNY: The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (17-24-4) return to the road for the first time since Jan. 18 after a six-game homestand in which the Bees finished with a 2-3-1 record. The Bees come off a two game set against the Rapid City Rush, in the final game of the series the Bees forced overtime with a late third period strike by Dan Gendur. Since returning to the Bees from Milwaukee, Gendur has two goals and an assist. Konrad Reeder scored the game winning goal for the Rush in OT at the 1:29 mark.
The Bees are set to face the Wichita Thunder for the second time this season to start the road trip. The Bees fell to the Thunder 4-3 back on Oct. 29 in what was only the Bees sixth game of the season. Tomas Klempa scored twice for the Bees while Aaron Lewicki added one in the defeat. Former Bees goalie Dan Rosen made 33 saves on 37 shots.
The Bees three-in-three will see them travel to Wichita, Texas and Allen before returning home. The visit to Allen will be the Bees first of the season. The Bees are 10-14-1 away from the Hive this season.
BEES NEED TO KNOW:
. The 2011 CHL Trade deadline has passed, one of the most quiet CHL Trade Deadlines has come and gone with the Bees not making a move. Prior to the deadline the Bees made three trades this season.
Jan. 15- Sean Muncy to Missouri for Dominic D'Amour
Jan. 17- Jake Obermeyer to Evansville for Bo Cheesman
Feb. 01- Future considerations to Quad City for Jerad Kaufmann
. Dan Gendur has to be one of the most well traveled Bees. Gendur is currently on his third stint in a Killer Bees uniform after being called up twice to the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League. Gendur is under contract to the Nashville Predators of the NHL.
. Not quite road warriors, the Killer Bees have only eight games remaining away from State Farm Arena this season. The Bees will skate the Hive ice 13 more times this season including eight times in February.
. The Bees lead the Laredo Bucks 15 points to 13 in the first-ever Cricket Mayor's Cup which is awarded to the team with the most points against the other. The teams have three games left.
. Zak McClellan, who was named captain at the start of the season, tied the Killer Bees all-time record for shorthanded goals with eight, Jan. 5 against Arizona.
