Suns Complete Gritty Comeback with 7-6 Win over BayBears

MOBILE, AL - The Jacksonville Suns (3-3, 39-37) used some late two-out magic to erase a four-run deficit and ultimately complete their comeback with a 7-6 victory over the Mobile BayBears (3-4, 45-31) on Wednesday afternoon from Hank Aaron Stadium.

Jay Rogers did not factor into the decision after he allowed three runs, but only one of those were earned on four hits, while walking a batter and striking out four batters.

James Leverton tossed a scoreless inning of relief, only allowing one hit in his Wednesday afternoon outing.

Jheyson Manzueta was tagged for three runs (all earned) on three hits with one walk mixed in over the course of his one inning of relief.

Nick Wittgren threw 1.1 scoreless innings despite give up a pair of walks and a pair of hits in his outing.

Greg Nappo struck out the only batter he faced in his one third of an inning.

Collin Cargill (W, 1-1) earned the win for the Suns after allowing a lone hit in his 1.1 innings of scoreless ball, while striking out two BayBears.

Bradin Hagens left in line for the win but did not factor into the decision after allowing two runs (both earned) on six hits in 6.1 innings of work, walking two batters and finishing with a single strikeout.

After Kaleb Fleck (BS, 2) blew the save by allowing two runs (both earned) on two hits, it was R.J. Hively (L, 2-3) who took the loss as he gave up the go-ahead run in the 10th despite not allowing a hit.

The Suns scored first on Wednesday, as Terrence Dayleg's first hit at the Double-A level scored Rich Poythress from second base to give Jacksonville a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

The BayBears drew level with the Suns in the bottom of the third, as Tom Belza's sacrifice fly scored Steve Rodriguez to make it a 1-1 ballgame in the bottom of the third.

It took until the bottom of the fifth inning for Mobile to grab their first lead of the game. A three-base throwing error from Alfredo Lopez allowed Steve Rodriguez to score and Sean Jamieson came in on Tom Belza's two-out RBI single to give the BayBears a 3-1 lead after five innings of work.

Jacksonville drew one run closer on Alfredo Silverio's RBI groundout in the top of the seventh inning to make it a 3-2 BayBears lead.

But Mobile responded in a major way in the bottom half of the seventh, plating three runs to grab a 6-2 advantage. With two outs in the inning, the BayBears used a two-run double from Jake Lamb and a RBI single from Gerson Montilla to give Mobile a four-run lead.

But the Suns were far from finished in this contest. A two-out rally allowed Jacksonville to slice into Mobile's lead, as Terrence Dayleg's two-out, two-run RBI single made it a 6-4 lead in favor of the BayBears in the top of the eighth.

The Suns continued their gritty second half ways by tying the ballgame up in the top of the ninth, as a two-out, two-run single by Wilfredo Gimenez brought the game level at 6-6.

Jacksonville forced extra innings thanks to great pitching from Greg Nappo and Collin Cargill and ultimately took the lead in the top of the 10th as Terrence Dayleg came down to score on R.J. Hively's wild pitch to put the Suns in front for good at 7-6.

The Suns and BayBears will be back at it on Thursday, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. CT (8:05 p.m. ET). The Suns will send out left-hander Justin Nicolino (7-2, 3.04) while the BayBears have not yet announced who their game three starter will be.
