Montgomery Biscuits News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Biscuits (39-37/4-2) and the Huntsville Stars (49-27/3-3) both had ninth inning comebacks before the Biscuits were able to hang on to a 5-4 win in ten innings in the series opener at Joe Davis Stadium on Tuesday night.
With the Biscuits trailing 2-1, David Goforth was on the hill in the ninth looking for his sixteenth save of the season. The inning started with back-to-back singles from Cameron Seitzer and Richie Shaffer. Jeff Malm followed with a third-straight single to bring in the game-tying run. Two batters later, Jake DePew laid down a safety squeeze to bring home Shaffer and give the Biscuits their first lead of the night. After Joey Rickard walked, Ryan Brett bounced into a force out that brought another run in, making it 4-2 Biscuits.
Matt Lollis (4-2) came in to throw the bottom of the ninth inning, but was rudely welcomed by consecutive-singles from Jason Rogers and Hainley Statia. Two batters later, D'Vontrey Richardson brought in one run with a single. Yadiel Ravera kept the game alive with a two out single to center, which set up Josh Prince for a game-tying single into right field to score Richardson.
In the tenth inning, Motter and Seitzer both singled to start the rally. Shaffer fouled out, but a ground out from Malm put runners on second and third. Greg Holle then threw a wild pitch that allowed Motter to score and give the Biscuits a 5-4 lead.
Jimmy Patterson (2) worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the tenth for his second save.
The Stars struck first in the first inning after Floro allowed one hit and two walks. Rogers grounded into a double-play to bring in a run. The Stars added a run in the sixth when Nick Ramirez launched a long solo home run.
The Biscuits cut the lead to one when Motter reached with an infield single, moved to second on a throwing error, stole third and scored on a throwing error in the seventh.
Game two is Wednesday night at 6:30. LH Grayson Garvin will pitch against LH Jed Bradley.
