State College Spikes News Release

STATE COLLEGE, PA - Heavy rain and thunderstorms in the State College area forced the State College Spikes and Staten Island Yankees to halt their game on Sunday evening at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park just before the bottom of the third inning was to start with the score tied, 0-0. The two teams will resume the contest on Monday as part of a makeshift doubleheader starting at Noon, with the completion of the suspended game to be followed by a seven-inning game between the Spikes and Yankees.

Tickets for Sunday night's game can redeemed for a ticket of equal or lesser value to any remaining Spikes home game in 2014, based upon availability. Fans can redeem their tickets by visiting the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Box Office, or by calling (814) 272-1711 for more information on ticket redemption.

Sunday's scheduled post-game fireworks show, presented by First National Bank and ESPN Radio 1450, has been postponed. The Spikes will make an announcement concerning an alternate date for the fireworks in the near future.

Dewin Perez had pitched three scoreless innings for the Spikes (21-8), yielding only a walk while striking out one. Jake Stone notched the only hit of the game before its suspension when he singled off Staten Island (15-14) starter Sean Carley in the second inning.

Perez and Carley are the current pitchers of record for the suspended game. The Spikes will be seeking their 11th victory in the last 12 games when the game resumes on Monday.

The probable starters for Monday afternoon's game, which will now be a seven-inning contest following the completion of the suspended game, were right-hander Fernando Baez (1-0) for State College and right-hander Jordan Cote (0-1) for Staten Island.

Monday will be the annual Super Splash Day game at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park as Ike's Kids Zone turns into the Splash Zone for kids of all ages. Gates open at 11 a.m., and the savings of Buck Night, presented by 95.3 FM 3WZ, will transfer to the daytime. Fans can purchase $1 Outfield Bleacher seats and then enjoy $1 hot dogs, $1 small sodas and $1 peanuts over the course of both games.

Tickets for Monday afternoon's makeshift doubleheader, as well as every Spikes home game on the 2013 slate, are currently on sale through the Spikes Box Office by calling (814) 272-1711 or by visiting in person. Fans can also buy and print single-game tickets by visiting StateCollegeSpikes.com.
