Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, NY -The Jamestown Jammers were scrambling to find the answer to the Vermont Lake Monsters pitching staff Sunday afternoon. Jamestown found themselves trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when right fielder, Kevin Krause, stepped up to the plate. With runners on second and first, Krause would unload on a pitch from Vermont reliever, Lee Sosa, and send one way beyond the left field wall at Diethrick Park to give the Jammers the lead, 4-2, and give them the lead for good in the contest. Krause would later hit another 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, raising the Jammers lead to 6-2. That would end up being the final score of Sunday's game. It was Krause's first multi-home run game of the season, and he drove in five runs on the day.

The Jamestown Jammers would strike first in the bottom of the third inning against Vermont starting pitcher, Jose Torres. Third basemen Francisco Aponte would double with two outs, and then left fielder, Jordan Luplow laced a single to right field, which would score Aponte, and give Jamestown the early 1-0 lead.

Vermont would score their two runs in the top of the fourth (1), and fifth innings (1). In the 4th, shortstop Yairo Munoz would lead off the inning with a single, and would later come around to score on a fielder's choice (which at the time would tie the game up for Vermont). In the top of the fifth, third basemen Jose Brizuela would launch a solo home run over the right field wall off Jammer starter, Alex McRae. That solo shot would put the Lake Monsters up 2-1, but unfortunately for the Lake Monsters, it would set the stage for Krause's heroics late in the game.

The Jammers collected eight hits during Sunday's game. Besides Krause, right fielder Michael Suchy, and designated hitter, David Andriese collected multiple hits for the Jammers. Aponte, and Luplow would pick up the other hits for Jamestown.

On the mound, Alex McRae continued a run of solid starting pitching for the Jammers. He would work five innings, give up four hits, two runs, and struck out two Lake Monsters. Jerry Mulderig would relieve McRae, and pitch the sixth and seventh innings. He wouldn't give up a run, or hit, managed to strike out one batter, and picked up his first win of the year. Sam Street would then come on to pitch the last two innings, and try to the close the game out for the Jammers. He would work through both innings with minimal damage, and only gave up one hit. Street also picked up his first save of the season.

The Jammers and Lake Monsters will complete their 3-game series tomorrow night at Diethrick Park. Right-handed pitcher, Montana DuRapau, will be on the mound for the Jammers. He will be opposed by right-handed pitcher Cristhian Perez of Vermont. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm, and the gates will open at 6. For ticket information, call the Jammers office at 716-664-0915.
