Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, NY - Coming off of a much-needed win, the Jammers entered Saturday night's game against the Vermont Lake Monsters looking to build momentum, and string together consecutive wins. When the dust settled at Diethrick Park after an intense game, the Jammers would come out on top, after an extremely uncommon finish.
Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, Jammer right fielder Michael Suchy would lead off the final frame by reaching on an error by Vermont shortstop, Yairo Munoz. Jamestown third basemen Chase Simpson would follow with a walk to put runners on second and third. First basemen Kevin Ross would try to move the runners over with a sac bunt, but Vermont first basemen John Nogowski would fire to third and retire Suchy. However, that would not deter the Jammers on this night. With Simpson on second, and Ross on first, shortstop Tyler Filliben would hit a double down the right field line, which would score Simpson to tie the game at 2, and allow Ross to advance to third. The Lake Monsters would then make the decision to intentionally walk Jamestown catcher, Deybi Garcia, but that decision would come back to haunt them. On the first pitch of the at-bat, Vermont pitcher Fernand Cruzado would fire the pitch past the catcher Kyle Wheeler, allowing Ross to score the winning run on the wild pitch, and the Jammers would beat the Lake Monsters, 3-2.
Leading up to the ninth inning rally, the Jammers offense was pretty much held in check. They did manage to pick up a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Suchy would lead off the inning with a double to left field. Simpson would then fly out to right field, allowing Suchy to advance to third. During the next batter's at-bat (Kevin Ross), Suchy would cross the plate on a passed ball.
Tyler Eppler, the starting pitcher for the Jammers, was extremely effective on the mound. He would work five scoreless innings, and only give up two hits. Miguel Rosario would work the next two innings for the Jammers, and give up one run, on only one hit, with two strikeouts. Eric Dorsch would work the final two innings for Jamestown, and also give up a run, on two hits.
For Vermont, second basemen Joe Bennie would pick up two hits, and collect an RBI. Shortstop Yairo Munoz would also pick up an RBI on the night, with a single in the top of the ninth inning.
Ross led the Jammer offense with two hits. Left fielder Jordan Luplow, Suchy, and Filliben picked up the rest of Jamestown's five hits.
These same two teams will square off Sunday afternoon at Diethrick Park. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05pm. Gates will open at 3. Right-handed pitcher Alex McRae will be on the mound for the Jammers. He will be opposed by left-handed pitcher Jose Torres of the Lake Monsters.
