Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Salt Lake City, Utah - The Salt Lake Bees hit a pair of early home runs and scored six runs in the first five innings to lead the way to a 6-2 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers Wednesday night at Smith's Ballpark.

With the win, the Bees (22-24) avoided losing three straight to start the series and snapped the Dodgers' five-game winning streak. Oklahoma City (31-14) also fell short in its bid to win three straight games in Salt Lake for the first time ever.

One day after setting season highs with 11 runs and 18 hits, the Dodgers were limited to two runs on a pair of solo home runs. They finished with seven hits and went just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Both teams traded home runs early on. Kyle Kubitza got it started with a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning to give Salt Lake a 1-0 lead

Andy Wilkins responded with a homer in the top of the second inning to tie the game. His shot traveled to the walkway to the right of the batter's eye for his third home run the season.

The tie didn't last long. On the first pitch of the bottom of the inning, C.J. Cron hit a homer in his first at-bat since getting sent to Salt Lake, putting the Bees back in front. Roger Kieschnick added a RBI single later in the inning to make it 3-1.

The Dodgers got back within one on another home run. Leading off the fourth inning, Buck Britton sent the first pitch over the right field fence for his third homer of the season.

The Bees' lead swelled in the fifth when the Salt Lake plated three runs. Cron collected a RBI groundout to make it 4-2. With two outs, Jett Bandy roped a RBI double, and Alfredo Marte followed with a RBI single to put the Bees ahead, 6-2.

Rain started to fall during the fifth inning, and after the inning ending, the umpiring crew pulled the teams off the field and the game entered a rain delay. The delay lasted 1 hour and 31 minutes before play resumed in the top of the sixth inning.

Neither team scored after the game picked back up. The Dodgers had a few scoring chances, but left three runners in scoring position over the final four innings.

Bees starting pitcher Drew Rucinski picked up his first win of the year and snapped a personal four-game losing streak. Rucinski (1-4) allowed two runs and three hits over 5.0 innings. He tied a season high with six strikeouts and issued a pair of walks.

Making his Oklahoma City debut, Eric Surkamp took the loss. Over 3.0 innings, Surkamp (0-1) allowed three runs and five hits. He struck out three and walked one.

The Dodgers finish their road trip in Salt Lake City Thursday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Central time. Live coverage begins at 12:35 p.m. on AM 1340 "The Game", 1340thegame.com, or through the iHeartRadio mobile app.
