Seager Dazzles in Salt Lake with Six Hits, Six RBI

Salt Lake City, Utah - Corey Seager put together a historic performance for the Oklahoma City Dodgers Thursday afternoon, going 6-for-6 with six RBI as the Dodgers closed out their series against the Salt Lake Bees with a wild 14-11 win at Smith's Ballpark.

Seager fell a triple short of the cycle, connecting on a solo home run, two doubles and three singles.

He became just the second player in Oklahoma City's PCL team history to record six hits in a game, following Jeff Pickler, who accomplished the feat June 22, 2004 in Albuquerque.

Seager also had the first six-RBI game for an Oklahoma City player since Brandon Laird drove in seven runs Aug. 3, 2013 against Colorado Springs.

The teams exchanged the lead through the first four innings before the Dodgers offense unloaded for eight runs in the sixth inning to give Oklahoma City the lead for good, despite a seventh-inning charge from the Bees.

The win gave the league-leading Dodgers (32-14) their first series win in Salt Lake since 1999, as they took three of four games between the teams.

In the four-game series with the Bees, Seager went a combined 13-for-18, including seven extra-base hits, and 10 RBI.

Seager gave the Dodgers the first lead of the afternoon Thursday when he hit an opposite field home run in the first inning - his third homer with Oklahoma City, and third of the road trip. His solo shot was at first ruled a double, but was determined to be a home run after further review.

Salt Lake (22-25) took the lead in the second inning when Charlie Cutler connected on a two-run triple on a fly ball to the right field corner for a 2-1 advantage.

Seager drove in two more runs in the third inning, hitting a grounder to center field with one out and the bases loaded for a 3-2 Dodgers lead.

The Bees used back-to-back doubles from Gary Brown and Daniel Robertson in the fourth inning to plate three runs and take a 5-3 lead. C.J. Cron hit a solo home run on a line drive to left center field to extend the Bees' lead to 6-3 in the fifth inning.

The Dodgers took the lead for good with an eight-run outburst in the sixth inning.

Andy Wilkins singled to lead off the inning, and Kyle Jensen followed and drew a walk. Elliot Johnson came up to bat next and his double to center field brought home Wilkins. Austin Chubb followed with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Jensen.

Johnson stole third base, then scored to tie the game, 6-6, when Darnell Sweeney reached on a fielder's choice. Seager later hit a RBI single to score Sweeney for a 7-6 Dodgers lead.

Dickson followed with a single to load the bases for Buck Britton, who blasted the Dodgers' first grand slam of the season to give Oklahoma City an 11-6 edge.

The grand slam was Britton's first since May 17, 2013 when he hit one against Lehigh Valley while playing in the International League for the Norfolk Tides.

Seager connected on his fifth hit of the day - a RBI double in the seventh inning - that put Oklahoma City in front, 12-6.

The Bees responded with five runs on seven hits in the bottom of the frame. Eight straight Salt Lake players reached base, including a two-run homer from Roger Kieschnick, as the Bees cut the Dodgers' lead to 12-11. Danny Coulombe replaced Ian Thomas on the mound for OKC and got Ryan Jackson to ground into a double play to close the inning.

Wilkins gave the Dodgers a little breathing room in the eighth inning with his fourth home run of the season.

Seager closed out his historic day with a ground-rule double down the right field line that brought home the Dodgers' 14th run of the afternoon in the top of the ninth inning.

Thomas (1-0), who the Dodgers acquired Wednesday as part of a six-player deal with the Braves, ended up with the win in his Oklahoma City debut.

David Aardsma pitched a scoreless and hitless bottom of the ninth inning for his league-leading 15th save of the season.

Salt Lake starting pitcher Andrew Heaney (5-1) was pegged with his first loss of 2015, allowing seven runs on 10 hits over 5.1 innings.

Oklahoma City's 14 runs set a new season high and marked the team's highest single-game run total since a 16-4 win Aug. 7, 2014 against Iowa. The Dodgers' 18 hits tied a season high, set two days previously in Salt Lake.

The Dodgers finished their road trip with a 6-2 record and picked up their 12th road win of May, giving them the most road wins in a month for an Oklahoma City squad since they tallied 14 road wins in May 2003.

The Dodgers open an eight-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. Friday against the Fresno Grizzlies at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Fireworks, presented by FAA Credit Union, will follow the game.
