Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Stockton Thunder defeated the Utah Grizzlies (27-21-5-3) 4-2 Monday night at Maverik Center.
The loss ends the Grizzlies six-game unbeaten streak at 5-0-1-0 and their four-game winning streak.
"I don't know how many one-on-ones we had with the goalie, probably 10 tonight," said Grizzlies Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "We couldn't put the puck in the net. Their goalie made some ridiculous acrobatic saves and we couldn't find a way to put the puck in the net. Sometimes you run into a goalie with a horseshoe and unfortunately we couldn't overcome it."
A wild first period ended 2-2 with 27 combined shots. Stockton took a 1-0 lead at 5:11, before the Grizzlies answered 33 seconds later as T.J. Syner hammered in a rebound on a Ryan Hayes shot after he forced a turnover. Utah made it 2-1 on a Syner power-play goal 5:04 later at 10:48 with assists going to Alex Krushelnyski and Jacob Johnston. Stockton answered 1:32 later on a five-on-three power-play to make it 2-2.
Stockton added a power-play goal 2:12 into the second period to make it 3-2 and a scored with 2:37 left to make it 4-2.
The Grizzlies clanged two posts in the third period and outshot Stockton 23-18 over the final two periods.
"Stockton is a good team," said Branham. "There is no easy game in this division. You can't take a team lightly, which we didn't. We came out firing, had a ton of scoring chances. They have guys that can put the puck in the net."
Igor Bobkov stopped 30 of 34 shots in the game.
