Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO (March 3, 2015)- The Missouri Mavericks took 2 points over the Tulsa Oilers on Tuesday night at Independence Events Center in a 6-3 offensive bout.
Josh Robinson made 36 saves between the pipes for Missouri through a full sixty minutes of hockey, and four Mavs players were credited with a multi-point night including Andrew Courtney (3G,1A), Sebastien Thinel (1G,2A), Lindsay Sparks (3A), and defenseman Patch Alber (2A).
The Oilers were first to strike via Adam Pleskach midway through the first period at 10:24. Drew Fisher and Jeff Jubinville assisted on Pleskach's 30th goal of the season for the 1-0 lead. Missouri made their move in the final three minutes of the period when Marty Lee scored the equalizer on the power-play for the Mavs at 17:11, assisted by Patch Alber and Jared Brown. Only 1:17 later, the Mavs took the lead with a lamp-lighter from Andrew Courtney with the help of Sebastien Thinel and Landon Oslanski.
Only forty-six seconds into the second period, Courtney expanded the home team's lead 3-1 over the Oilers off a feed from Lindsay Sparks. Thinel was credited with the secondary assist. Tulsa was finally able to rebuttal the Mavs lead while on the man-advantage with a goal from T.J. Caig, aided by Tommy Mele and Nathan Lutz at 4:29.
The second period scoring did not end there, as Andrew Courtney brought Independence to its feet once again with his 25th goal of the season and third of the night for a hat trick, with a lone assist from Lindsay Sparks at 5:02. Tulsa then answered back only twenty-five seconds later for the third goal scored in minute during the period to stay within reach of the Mavs 4-3. The Oilers' third of the night credited to Pleskach (his 2nd of the night), assisted by Fisher. Mavericks forward Jack Downing capped off the second period scoring rush at 14:05, assisted by Alber and Geordie Wudrick to make the scoreboard read 5-3 in favor of Missouri.
The Mavs held onto their 5-3 lead through 19:24 of the third period when Thinel scored the final tally of the game on an empty Tulsa net for a 6-3 Missouri victory and an important 2 points in the Central Division standings of the ECHL. Sparks and Courtney assisted on Thinel's 15th goal of the season.
The Mavericks play their next game at home on Friday, March 6 at 7:05pm (CST) when they host the Rapid City Rush at Independence Events Center. Missouri will wear specialty "Military Appreciation" themed jerseys during the game, which will be auctioned off directly after the game in Sections 101 and 102, benefitting Folds of Honor.
