South Carolina Stingrays News Release
The South Carolina Stingrays hosted the Orlando Solar Bears at the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday and Sunday last week to wrap up a five-game homestand, earning a week record of 0-1-0-1 and an overall record 4-8-0-4.
The Stingrays and Solar Bears collided in the first of 11 meetings this season Saturday during the 5th Annual Hockey Heroes for Epilepsy Night. Both teams exchanged leads twice before the Solar Bears prevailed 6-5 in the shootout. Defenseman Garrett Haar registered four assists and forwards Patrick Gaul and Braden Pimm added two goals each. Pimm picked up his first professional goal in the opening period and goaltender Jeff Jakaitis made 35 saves in his second appearance of the season. The Stingrays have appeared in an ECHL-leading five shootouts this season, earning a 1-4 record. Following the contest, the Stingrays held a live jersey auction, generating over $15,000. Proceeds from the jersey auction, silent auction and ticket sales will help fight epilepsy in the Lowcountry.
On Sunday afternoon, the high-flying offense for both sides calmed down with the Solar Bears squeaking out a 2-0 victory. Netminder Brandon Anderson stopped 24 of 26 Orlando chances and forward Jack Downing, who celebrated his 200 professional game on Saturday, led the Stingrays with four shots on goal.
