All throughout December: Bring a gift card for the troops and receive a ticket to our February 16 game as a thank you for your gratitude! Spread cheer by bringing a gift card for members of the USO Holdover Troops to all December games or to the Stingrays office throughout the month. We will collect gift cards and give them the troops on USO Holdover Troops Day on December 27.
LAST WEEK'S RESULTS:
December 11: South Carolina at Atlanta, 3-2 L
A late second period goal for Atlanta captain Derek Nesbitt proved to be the game-winning tally as the Gladiators earned a 3-2 victory over South Carolina last Friday night at the Infinite Energy Arena. The contest was South Carolina's final game of a 10-game road trip. The Stingrays completed the road trip with a record of 6-4-0-0, and got goals from Brett Cameron and Derek DeBlois in the loss.
December 12: Greenville at South Carolina, 5-1 W
Joe Devin and the South Carolina Stingrays are happy to be back home. After 10 straight games and 28 days on the road, the Stingrays reintroduced themselves to the home crowd at the North Charleston Coliseum with an 5-1 victory over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits last Saturday night, led by a hat trick from Devin. The Stingrays earned their first win in four tries against the Swamp Rabbits this season, and also got a goal from Joey Leach and Paul Rodrigues on Hockey Heroes for Epilepsy Night.
December 13: Atlanta at South Carolina, 3-2 W
Captain Andrew Rowe scored the game-winning goal at the 6:31 mark of the third period to earn the South Carolina Stingrays a 3-2 win over the Atlanta Gladiators Sunday at the North Charleston Coliseum. The contest was the Stingrays annual Teddy Bear Toss, and Bobby Shea's goal in the first period brought 3,077 stuffed animals flying to the ice for those in need at the Salvation Army Angel Tree.
COACH'S SHOW AT WILD WING CAFE TONIGHT!
Join us TONIGHT for a live edition of Monday Night Hockey, The Official Coach's Show of the South Carolina Stingrays! The show is TONIGHT at 7 p.m. at Wild Wing Cafe in North Charleston. Fans are invited to enjoy great food and drink at Wild Wing Cafe all while talking Stingrays Hockey. The Voice of the Stingrays, Zack Fisch, hosts the program. Each episode, Fisch chats with Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery. This month's guest is forward Derek DeBlois!
HAPPY TO BE HOME
After a 10-game, 28-day road trip, the South Carolina Stingrays returned to North Charleston for a pair of games last weekend. The club earned a pair of victories on home ice to improve to 15-9-1-1 on the season. During the lengthy road trip, South Carolina went 6-4-0-0, including recording three victories in Orlando, and a win in Atlanta, Wheeling and Indy.
DEVIN DOMINATESForward Joe Devin scored his first career ECHL hat trick in a 5-1 win over Greenville on Saturday. Devin scored twice in the opening period and finished off the hat trick in the second period. He is tied for the team lead with eight goals and leads the team with 19 points.
STEADY LEACH & SHEA
South Carolina defenseman Joey Leach is tied for second in the ECHL with a +15 mark on the season. The defenseman scored his fourth goal of the season on Saturday and has posted eight points in 25 games this season. Leach's defense partner, Bobby Shea, is also enjoying a strong season, posting a +13 mark to go along with 11 points (three goals, eight assists).
SHUTDOWN DEFENSE
The Stingrays are one of the ECHL's top defensive teams this season. South Carolina is allowing just 2.08 goals per game, good for second in the ECHL. The Stingrays allow just 25.35 shots per game, which is also second in the ECHL. Missouri leads the lead in both categories.
VANECEK TO WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
South Carolina goaltender Vitek Vanecek is away from the team as he has been selected to participate in the Czech Republic's World Junior Championship Evaluation Camp. He is expected to be a key piece for the Czech squad at the tournament which is being held in Helsinki, Finland from Dec. 26-Jan. 5.
