Manchester Monarchs News Release

WEEK IN REVIEW

The Monarchs played four games this past week while taking a tour through the East Division, playing the Brampton Beast, Elmira Jackals and Adirondack Thunder on the road, before coming home to play the Thunder on Sunday.

Wednesday morning, the Monarchs edged out the Beast on the road, coming back from a two-goal deficit in the second period to win, 4-3. Darik Angeli, Austin Block, Danick Paquette and Zac Larraza netted the goals for the Monarchs. Angeli scored his first professional goal to bring the Monarchs to within one goal in the second period. In the third, Block tied the game, but three minutes later, the Beast regained the lead. Paquette tied the game at 12:30 of the final frame and Larraza scored the game-winning-goal with :20 seconds left in the game. The victory pushed the team's road winning streak to four games. Doug Carr made his Monarchs debut in net for the Monarchs, earning the win.

Friday night, the Monarchs ended their four-game road winning streak, with a 2-1 shootout loss to the Elmira Jackals. The Monarchs lone goal was scored by Angeli on the power play in the first period, but Elmira tied the game a minute and a half later. Neither team found the back of the net for the next two periods or in overtime. The Jackals scored the game winner in the 3rd round of the shootout.

Saturday night, the Monarchs traveled to Glen Falls, N.Y. and won their first game in Adirondack this season, 4-3. The Monarchs received goals from Yann Sauvé, Gasper Kopitar, Matt Leitner and David Kolomatis. Leitner tied the game with :38 seconds left with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker. David Kolomatis notched a power-play goal in overtime for the victory. Cedrick Desjardins won in his Monarchs debut and his first win since Dec. 26, 2014. The Monarchs extended their road point streak to six games.

Sunday afternoon the Monarchs were shutout by the Thunder, 2-0. Carr led the way with 32 saves, but the team couldn't figure out Adirondack goaltender, Drew Fielding. After dropping the game, the Monarchs now sit at 1-3-0-0 against their divisional rival.

WHERE WE STAND

The Monarchs begin the week in first place in the East Division, one point in front of the Adirondack Thunder and Elmira Jackals (32 pts.) and hold a 7-2-0-1 record in their last 10 games. Manchester's 33 points ranks second in the Eastern Conference, and third in the ECHL.

WINGING IT IN KALAMAZOO

The Monarchs head to Kalamazoo, Mich. for their last meeting with the Wings and their third and final morning game of the season. The two teams faced each other in early November, with the Monarchs clipping the Wings, 7-3. Kalamazoo currently sits in 12th place (22 pts.) in the Eastern Conference, but sport a winning record (6-4-1-1) at home. The ECHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets come into this game on a mini roll, winning two games in a row.

STORMING THE FORT

Friday night, the Monarchs cross over to play in the Western Conference, as they take on the Komets for the first time in franchise history. The ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche stand alone in 8th place in the Western Conference (23 pts.), and hold a 6-4-1-0 record at home.

GOING FISHING

The week ends for the Monarchs on Saturday night, when the team visits the Walleye for the first time this season. The Monarchs hold a 2-1-0-0 record against Toledo thus far, and will play the Walleye once more this season (Apr. 1). Toledo, the ECHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, hold 7th place in the Eastern conference (28 pts.), but have done most of their work on the road, playing only six home games thus far. The Walleye have been playing better of late, posting a 7-2-1-0 record in their last 10 games.

LEADING THE WAY

Matt Leitner continues to lead the Monarchs in scoring after adding two points this past weekend (1g, 1a), for a season total of 25 points (6g, 19a). To begin the week, Leitner is one point behind Matt Willows of Florida for the lead in rookie scoring, and leads all rookies in assists (19). Fellow rookie, Zac Larraza, leads the team in goals (11), and is tied for first in the ECHL for rookie goal scoring.

MANNING THE NET

Manchester saw two new goaltenders between the pipes this week, as Doug Carr and Cedrick Desjardins put on the big pads to protect the Monarchs net. Carr (1-1-0-1) was signed to a contract Dec. 8 after playing in three games for the Albany Devils (AHL). The former UMass-Lowell product holds a 1.63 GAA and a 0.947 save percentage in three starts with the Monarchs. Desjardins was assigned to the Monarchs by the New York Rangers/Hartford Wolf Pack on Dec. 9. Desjardins (1-0-0-0) has played in six NHL games in his career, but his start Saturday against Adirondack was his first since Dec. 26, 2014, suffering a knee injury in that contest.

LIGHTING THE LAMP

The Monarchs have scored 80 goals this season, good for second in the ECHL in that category. The team has scored 62 even-strength goals, adding 17 goals on the power play and one shorthanded tally. Manchester has saved their best for last, scoring 32 goals in the third period and overtime.

TICKETS

The Monarchs return to the Jungle Dec. 27 (3 p.m.), as they host the Adirondack Thunder in an East Division showdown. The Greenville Swamp Rabbits come to town for the annual New Year's Eve game. Fans will enjoy the largest indoor fireworks display in New England after the final whistle as well as the much anticipated year-in-review video.
