Jason Christie Sets ECHL Record with 492nd Career Win
December 14, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
PRINCETON, N.J. - Tulsa Oilers' head coach Jason Christie became the ECHL's all-time leader in wins by a head coach on Thursday, recording his 492nd career win in a 4-2 win over the Idaho Steelheads. He breaks the previous mark of 491, which was held by 2012 ECHL Hall of Fame inductee John Marks.
Christie is in his 13th season as an ECHL head coach after making previous stops in Peoria (2000-01 through 2004-05), Utah (2005-06 through 2007-08) and Ontario (2011-12 through 2014-15). He has an overall ECHL record of 492-291-100. He ranks third in League history with 883 games coached.
Christie's teams have won 40 or more games eight times, and he has led his club to the Kelly Cup Playoffs 10 times. He ranks third in ECHL postseason history with 88 games coached while his 43 postseason wins are tied for sixth all-time. Christie was selected as a coach for the ECHL All-Star Game in his first season in 2000-01 as well as in 2003-04.
Prior to his coaching career, Christie played 10 professional seasons, playing his final season in the ECHL with Peoria in 1999-2000, and earning co-Most Valuable Player honors in the Kelly Cup Playoffs as the Rivermen captured the 2000 Kelly Cup title.
Marks had 491 wins in 15 seasons with Charlotte (1993-98), Greenville (1998-2006), Pensacola (2007-08) and Augusta (2008-09). He is the only coach in ECHL history to lead a team to both a Riley Cup championship (Charlotte, 1996) and a Kelly Cup championship (Greenville, 2002).
