Rapid City Rush News Release

(RAPID CITY, SD) - The Rapid City Rush, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Arizona Coyotes, announced today that the club has acquired goaltender Sam Marotta from the Elmira Jackals in exchange for future considerations.

Marotta, 24, enters his second season of professional hockey with experience across multiple professional leagues in North America. The 6'4", 200-pound net-minder from Bridgewater, Massachusetts, spent his rookie season with the Jackals in the ECHL and the AHL's Rochester Americans, the latter of which he only made one appearance with by virtue of a call-up. In 36 games in the "Premiere 'AA' Hockey League" last season, Marotta compiled an 11-21-1 record with a GAA of 2.74 and a SV% of .910 with a lone shutout.

"With the recall of Marek Langhamer, it was vital to go out and get an established goaltender. Fortunately, we were able to trade for Sam Marotta," said Rush Head Coach and GM, Joe Ferras. "Marotta had a tremendous college career at Merrimack and is a proven goaltender at the ECHL level, starting this year off with a 3-1-0 record. Sammy is part of the new breed of professional goalies, having tremendous size and athleticism, and will be a great compliment to Battsy on our goaltending tandem."

Prior to playing professionally, Marotta played 47 games over the course of four seasons at his alma mater, Merrimack College in the NCAA, where he boasted an overall record of 14-19-4 with 3 shutouts to his name.
