South Carolina Stingrays News Release

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Davis Parley made 35 saves and Peter Szabo had a goal and an assist to lead the South Carolina Stingrays past the Augusta Lynx 4-1 in front of 3,061 at James Brown Arena.

With the victory, South Carolina's playoff hopes remain alive. The Stingrays collected two points and move into a three-way tie for fourth place with Augusta and Charlotte in the ECHL's South Division. The top five teams in the division advance to the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Stingrays have three games remaining in the regular season, while Augusta has four left and Charlotte has six games remaining.

"I like our intensity throughout," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "This was only one win, we have more work to do in Augusta. It was a playoff-like atmosphere and it's going to be the same on Saturday night in Augusta."

Augusta (38-27-3, 79 points) started the scoring on the power play. Garett Bembridge deposited a rebound past Parley for his 18th goal of the campaign at 8:48 of the first period. Assists went to Ken Scuderi and J.B. Bittner.

South Carolina (35-25-9, 79 points) tied the score on a 5-on-3 man advantage to begin the second period. Captain Cail MacLean buried his 25th of the year at 52 seconds of the middle stanza. Matt Reid and Szabo collected helpers.

Stingrays took a 2-1 lead late in the second, as Reid fed Micheal Haley, who tallied his second of the season at the 18:27 mark.

At the end of the second, South Carolina defenseman Nate Kiser was assessed a double-minor penalty for attempting to spear. Augusta however, would fail to score on the ensuing power play.

Szabo gave the Stingrays some cushion at 14:42 sliding home a backhand shot from the slot from Brendan Bernakevitch.

Kiser registered a goal into the empty-net in the final minute to round out the scoring.

South Carolina went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Augusta converted on 1-of-6 chances with the man advantage. Lynx outshot the Stingrays 36-35.
