Reading, PA - For the second consecutive game, the Reading Royals (30 - 32 - 7 = 67; 5th North Division) found themselves in a three goal hole out of which they were unable to climb, losing to the Dayton Bombers, 5-1. For the twentieth time this season, the opposition scored the game's first goal on the Royals' home ice, and despite numerous quality scoring chances, Reading was unable to solve Dayton goaltender Adam Berkhoel (22 - 14 - 3; 39/40) at the critical moments of the game. Curtis Darling (0 - 1 - 0; 29/33; in 57:34; 1 eng) took the loss in his first start as a pro.

Dayton got on the board 14:27 into the game on their second power play of the night when defenseman Greg Labenski fired a shot from the high slot that appeared to deflect off a Royals' defender and into the net for Labenski's fourth of the season. After a series of spectacular stops by Berkhoel-particularly in the early stages of the second period-prevented Reading from breaking through, Dayton picked up what proved to be the game winner at the 10:38 mark of the second. As the Royals attempted to clear a loose puck from the defensive zone, the Bombers Corey LeClair was able to keep it alive at the left point. Tim Konsorada ended up with the puck at the left wing half-wall, and he slipped a brilliant pass to Paul Kelly, who was wide open and all alone at the left side of the Royals' net. Kelly then slid the puck under Darling for his twenty-third of the season. Dayton made it 3-0 at the 14:09 mark of the second when Peter Pohl charged into the offensive zone on a break. Pohl threw on the brakes fifteen feet away from the Royals' goal and slid a saucer through the low slot to Konsorada, who came charging in on the right side. Konsorada tapped the puck under the sprawling Darling for his thirteenth of the season.

Reading finally got on the board with 4 seconds remaining in the second period on a power play goal. Malcolm MacMillan won an offensive zone face-off to Dany Roussin, who in turn fed to Eric Werner in the high slot. Werner stepped up and ripped a blast low glove side on Berkhoel for his second goal in two games since returning to the Royals from the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL. In the third, the Bombers did an excellent job of keeping the Royals out of sorts and broke the hope of the team with a five-on-three power play deflection goal by Matt Herneisen with 4:11 remaining in regulation. Joe Cullen added an empty netter with eleven seconds left, but the damage in this one had already been done, as the Royals dropped their third consecutive home game and extended the team's winless streak to five games (0 - 4 - 1).
