South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons has been busy signing two new players, activating Brett Marietti and placing Aaron Schneekloth, Joel Irving and Trevor Johnson on the injured list in the last two days. Today the Stingrays signed forward Casey Kesselring and defenseman Steve Duke.

"We have been devastated by injuries in the past two weeks," said Fitzsimmons. "We desperately needed players to come in here and help us weather the storm. Both Steve and Casey are players that should be able to step right in and give us some valuable minutes."

Kesselring (6'-0"-185lbs) is a fifth year professional from Merrimack College who spent two seasons as a member of the Pee Dee Pride. He had 23 goals in 1999-00 with the Pride and had a career high 66 points the following season. Kesselring split his time between the Greensboro Generals and the Macon Whoopee last season.

Duke (5'-10"; 195lbs) has not played since the 2000-01 season. A college teammate of Joel Irving at Western Michigan, the Georgetown, Ontario native has played with the Johnstown Chiefs, Mississippi Sea Wolves and the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL.

Fitzsimmons activated Brett Marietti from the injured list; he is expected to play this weekend. He has not played for South Carolina since suffering an injury on November 1st against the Florida Everblades. The first year head coach placed Jeff Boulanger and Joel Irving on the 30-day injured list and put Aaron Schneekloth and Trevor Johnson on the seven day list.

South Carolina will play a road game against the Columbia Inferno on Friday night and return home on Saturday to host the Augusta Lynx at 7:30.
