December 19, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
READING, PA â The East Coast Hockey League announced the Northern Conference starting lineup and roster for the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game.
Reading Royals defenseman Simon Tremblay is making his second consecutive appearance and first start, having scored two points (1g-1a) in the Northern Conference's 7-6 loss at Trenton, New Jersey in 2002. Tremblay, 24, ranks fifth among ECHL defensemen with 20 assists and 24 points. Joining Tremblay will be Royals forwards Brian McCullough and Brad Rooney.
Tremblay said being chosen as a starter is quite an honor. "Last season making the team was nice but being selected as a starter is really exciting," he said. "I am looking forward to going to Florida with my teammates, Roons and Mac."
Under contract to Manchester (AHL), McCullough is making his second appearance, having scored a hat trick in the Northern Conference's 9-5 loss at Little Rock, Arkansas in 2001. McCullough leads the ECHL in scoring with 44 points and is tied for third in goals (18) and fifth in assists (26). McCullough has led the league in scoring this season for nine of the first eleven weeks. His 13-game point streak (22 pts.) is a season high in 2002-03. McCullough has posted a point or more in all but six Royals games this season.
"I am honored to be chosen once again to the ECHL All Star Team," McCullough said. "I would really like to thank my teammates who really have made this honor possible."
McCullough's linemate, Brad Rooney, has also been electrifying this year. Rooney's 28 helpers lead the ECHL and his 41 points ranks third among the league leaders. The St. Catherines, Ontario native has also set a Royals franchise mark and ECHL high in 2002-03 by scoring a point or more in 13 straight contests (19pts.). Rooney was voted by his teammates and the fans as the Royals MVP, Rookie of the Year and Best Offensive Player in the Royals inaugural season.
"To be recognized by my peers, coaches, and media members is something very special," second-year pro Rooney said. "I will look forward to representing the Northern Conference."
"This is a tremendous honor for these players and our program," said Royals general manager, Ray Delia. "We are very proud of Brian, Brad, and Simon. This is a great reward for their efforts in the first half of this season."
The starting lineups were determined in voting by Northern Conference coaches, team captains, media relations directors, team broadcasters and newspaper writers. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference that determined the final roster with each of the 14 teams in the Northern Conference represented.
The 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game will be played January 21 at 7:30 p.m. The game and the skills competition on January 20 will both be hosted by the Florida Everblades at the TECO Arena in Estero, Florida. For tickets call (239) 948-7825 or log on to www.ticketmaster.com.
