FLORENCE, SC â The East Coast Hockey League today announced the Southern Conference roster for the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game to be held on Tuesday, January 21st, 2003, at TECO Arena in Estero, Florida. Two Pee Dee Pride players are part of the Southern Conference team: right wing Mike Glumac and goaltender Matt Underhill. Glumac has been among the league leaders in rookie scoring all season. In 25 games this season he has 18 goals and 12 assists for 30 points to rank second among all first-year players. His 18 goals lead the Pride, and are tied for fourth overall in the ECHL. Glumac also leads both the Pride and the league in plus-minus with a plus-27 rating. The rookie from Miami University was honored as the CCM/ECHL Rookie of the Month in October, and in November added the C & T Hockey Products Plus Performer of the Month award.
Underhill is second in the East Coast Hockey League with a 2.32 goals against average and is fifth with a .928 save percentage. The Cornell University product has seen action in 14 games this season, posting a 7-5-2 record. Underhill was a sixth-round selection (#170 overall) of the Calgary Flames in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Last season with the Big Red, he ranked third nationally with a 1.80 goals against average, fourth in the nation in save percentage at .922 and was named first team All-American at goaltender.
This year is the fifth time in the Pride's six-year existence that the team has had at least two representatives in the All-Star Game (Brian Goudie and Vashi Nedomanski in 1998; Allan Sirois in 1999; Dany Bousquet, Paxton Schafer and Buddy Smith in 2000; Bousquet and Trevor Demmans in 2001; and Sirois and Gregor Krajnc in 2002).
The Pride are in action this weekend, taking on the Greenville Grrrowl in a home-and-home series. Friday night, the two teams meet at the BI-LO Center in Greenville for a 7:05 face off (coverage on WDAR Sunny 105.5 starts at 6:45). Pee Dee hosts Greenville at the Florence Civic Center on Saturday at 7:30. Tickets for all Pride home games are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
