South Carolina Stingrays News Release

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays got three unanswered goals in the second period, including two by Steve Pinizzotto, and got the edge in the shoot out 4-3, against the Florida Everblades at the North Charleston Coliseum.

"I think we took them kind of lightly in the first half of the game," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "But in the second half of the game I think they took us a little lightly, and we were able to capitalize."

The first period got underway with Nate Kiser and Brad Brown getting into a fight just three seconds in. That would set the tone for what was a hard fought night for both teams. The first period featured back and forth play, but no real chances for either team.

The second period was quite the antithesis. The Everblades scored three straight goals in the first eight minutes of the period to take a 3-0 lead. But Pinizzotto got on the board at 11:35 from Trent Campbell and Nate Kiser, breathing new life into the Rays. Pinizzotto struck again at 13:40, his second of the game and 14th of the season, from Campbell and Rory Rawlyk. With time expiring in the second period Grant McNeill got his 3rd goal of the year to tie the game at three with just :13 seconds to go. The goal was assisted by Marty Guerin and Chris Chaput.

The third period and overtime featured numerous chances for both teams, but no scoring changes as the two teams were headed for a shoot out.

In the shootout Rawlyk got the Rays on the board first and after one round it was 1-0 Rays. Ernie Hartlieb tied things up at one after the second round. It wasn't until the fourth round that Pierre-Luc O'Brien got the Rays the lead putting the pressure squarely on the shoulders of Kirk MacDonald. MacDonald couldn't tie things up as Davis Parley made the save to win the game for the Rays.

The winning goaltender was Parley who stopped 27 of 30 shots in regulation and overtime, and stopped four of the five shoot out attempts. The losing goaltender was Kevin Nastiuk who stopped 24 of 27 shots in regulation and overtime, and two of the four shoot out attempts. The Rays went 0-3 on the power play while killing off five of the six short handed situations they faced.

The Rays are back in action Tuesday night when they welcome in the Augusta Lynx. Game time will be at 7:05 P.M.
