Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors suffered a 5-2 setback to the Stockton Thunder Saturday night in front 6,648 at Rabobank Arena in downtown Bakersfield. The Condors do not lose ground in the playoff race, as Phoenix also lost tonight, and remain just two points out of the eighth and final playoff spot.

Stockton (21-29-3, 45 points) jumped out to a first-period lead with consecutive tallies in just 30 seconds from RW David Rohlfs and C Geoff Paukovich midway through the opening frame. The Condors (16-27-9, 41 points) battled back to get on the board, with LW Brett Lutes punching home his 15th of the season at 14:20. Bakersfield led in shots, 13-9, after one.

The Thunder pushed the lead back to two goals with an early tally in the second stanza from RW Tim Verbeek, making the score 3-1. C Brandon Schwartz added a shorthanded goal at 13:03, and Stockton took a 4-1 lead into the second intermission.

With just over eight minutes left in regulation, the Condors cut the lead in half, as F Eric Sonnenberg pushed a rebound into the Stockton net after D Jay Langager hit the post with the initial wrist shot. Thunder LW Tom Zanoski responded with an unassisted goal to account for the 5-2 final score. G Tim Boron finished the night with 39 saves to earn the win for the Thunder.

Notes from The Nest:

The Condors have gone three straight games without allowing a power play goal for the first time all season. C Tim Konsorada extended his point streak to three games with an assist tonight -- he has 2g-2a during the streak.

Lucky 2 Million?

The Condors will draw their 2 millionth fan in team history on Sunday afternoon. The individual that walks through the turnstiles for the milestone moment will win a prize pack that includes a Condors jersey personalized as "2 million", a commemorative plaque, tickets for the remainder of the season, a team-signed stick, upgraded seats for the night and a lottery ticket featuring the game's starting lineup, which hopefully will yield a $2 million payoff or more!
