Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces shook off a game-tying goal by Las Vegas in the final minute of regulation and scored on all four of their attempts in the shootout to earn their sixth straight victory, 4-3 over the Wranglers before 4,850 Saturday at Sullivan Arena.
For the second straight night, Las Vegas grabbed a 1-0 lead after the first period, as Tyler Mosienko scored his 19th goal of the year just 62 seconds into the game, beating Alaska starter Marek Schwarz with a wrist shot from the left circle. The Wranglers out-shot the Aces 12-8 in the opening frame, but were out-played for much of the second, managing just one shot on goal in the period's first 15 minutes.
Alaska, meanwhile, took over control of the game, tying the contest on a tip-in by Kimbi Daniels just 1:12 into the period, and taking its first lead at 11:14 on a power play goal rifled home by Peter Metcalf from between the circles. That 2-1 edge held up for more than 23 minutes, until Peter Ferraro whistled a one-timer past Schwarz with 5:21 remaining in the third period on a Vegas power play. The Aces answered with their second power play tally of the night, another deflection, this one courtesy of Brett Hemingway, who registered his second goal in an Alaska jersey and his 12th of the season to push the home team back in front, 3-2, with 2:44 left in regulation.
The Wranglers pulled starter Daniel Manzato (35 saves) with 1:39 remaining, and after a couple of Aces missed the empty net, got the equalizer when Anchorage-born Jason Krischuk followed up after a great save by Schwarz on Kelly Czuy's breakaway and banged home the rebound at 19:21. After a scoreless overtime session, the Aces lit up Manzato in the shootout, as Matt Robinson, Josh Soares, F.P. Guenette, and Daniels scored in succession. Schwarz stopped the last two Vegas attempts to keep his ECHL record perfect at 5-0.
Alaska's 4-3 win over Las Vegas will be re-broadcast tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. on GCI Cable Channel 1. The Aces have ripped off their longest winning streak of the season to improve to 27-19-5 overall, 6-1 in shootouts. The final game of this three-game set with the Wranglers begins tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. and features a post-game "Skate with the Aces," presented by Fred Meyer. All regular season games are broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to face-off.
