Wranglers Edged By Aces 4-3 In A Shootout...Again

Anchorage, AK - The Las Vegas Wranglers (35-10-9, 79 points) were defeated by the Alaska Aces (27-19-5, 59 points) 4-3 in a shootout at Sullivan Arena on Saturday night. Despite a late charge by the Wranglers to force overtime and a shootout, the Aces scored on all four shootout attempts to beat Las Vegas for the second straight night. Alaska defenseman Peter Metcalf scored a goal and dished out two assists as the Aces won their sixth straight. Alaska goalie Marek Schwartz (5-0-0) stopped 26 of 29 in regulation and two of four in the shootout for the win. Wranglers' goalie Daniel Manzato (18-5-5) stopped 35 of 38 Aces shots in regulation, but could not stop the Aces on all four shootout attempts in the loss. Las Vegas defenseman Jason Krischuk, right wing Peter Ferraro and center Tyler Mosienko each scored in the defeat. The Wranglers and Aces conclude a three-game series Sunday at 6:15 pm (PST) at Sullivan Arena.

Las Vegas struck early with the only tally in the opening period. Center Tyler Mosienko snapped his 19th goal of the season through traffic and past Marek Schwartz for a 1-0 Las Vegas lead 1:02 into the first period.

In the second period, Alaska charged back, outshooting Las Vegas 14-1 in the first 15 minutes of the middle period. Aces defenseman Peter Metcalf set up Alaska's first goal of the night at 1:12, tying the game 1-1. Metcalf fired the puck to the net and center Kimbi Daniels redirected it for his 18th goal of the season. Metcalf scored his seventh goal of the season at 11:14, a power-play goal that propelled Alaska into the lead at 2-1.

In the third period, Las Vegas tied the game 2-2 late in the period as Peter Ferraro scored his 24th goal of the season with 5:21 remaining. The power-play goal was set up by Aaron Power and Adam Cracknell. The Aces took a 3-2 lead when Brett Hemingway tallied his 12th goal of the season, a power-play goal at 17:16. Las Vegas pulled goalie Daniel Manzato for the extra attacker and the move paid of with 39-seconds remaining in the contest. Defenseman Jason Krischuk tipped in a rebound off a Kelly Czuy shot for his fifth goal of the season, tying the game 3-3 and forcing overtime.

After a scoreless overtime the two teams went to a shootout for the second straight night. Alaska scored on all four shootout attempts and the Wranglers only tallied twice as the Aces won the game 4-3.

The Wranglers continue their longest road trip of the season with one more game in Anchorage on Sunday. The team will then head to Victoria for three games starting on Wednesday. Las Vegas will return home to the Orleans Arena on Tuesday, March 4th at 9:05 pm to host Stockton.
