February 24, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
BILOXI, MS - The Ice Pilots charged into Mississippi picking up a point but losing in a shoot out 3-2 to the Sea Wolves at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Jason Tejchma scored the final shoot out goal to win it for the Sea Wolves in the fifth round keeping history on hold.
The Sea Wolves peppered Ice Pilots goaltender Cam Ellsworth with 18 first period shots but he stood tall stopping them all. Mississippi was unable to convert on their three power plays while the Ice Pilots went 0 for 2 and it was scoreless after 20 minutes.
Adam Berti put the Ice Pilots up 1-0 at 6:44 of the second period as he fired a shot from the left wing circle past Sea Wolves goaltender Ryan Munce. Bryan Esner increased the Ice Pilots lead to 2-0 as he scored shorthanded with just 53 seconds left in the second period. Mississippi answered though as Chris Cava's drive from the right point connected with 10 seconds left as the Sea Wolves scored on the power play and the Ice Pilots had a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
In the third period, Mark Hurtubise redirected a shot from Cava at the line to tie the game at two and force overtime. Neither team was able to score in the five minute extra session as the game went to a shoot out. In the fourth round, Luke Erickson put the Pilots ahead 1-0 but Hurtubise responded and in the fifth and final round it was Tejchma winning it. Cam Ellsworth made 42 saves in the defeat.
The Pilots look to get win number 481 for Head Coach John Marks to break the ECHL record as they return home to face-off against the in-state rival Florida Everblades. It will be a three game series beginning on Friday evening at the Hangar.
In other Ice Pilots news, the team picked up Nathan Barrett off waivers from the Victoria Salmon Kings then traded him to Las Vegas for future considerations. Mike Brodeur was also recalled to Rockford of the AHL following Friday night's game.
