
Stingrays Set New Single-Game Attendance Record on Pack the House Night

North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (30-9-2-4) beat the Reading Royals (22-15-1-3) 5-3 in front of a new single-game record crowd of 10,570 at North Charleston Coliseum Saturday evening. Stingrays rookie Jake Hauswirth scored two goals and an assist and the Stingrays extended their winning streak to five games.
The Royals lit the lamp first with a tally from forward Andrew Sarauer at 11:53 from winger Charlie Kronschnabel and defenseman Eric Werner. The Stingrays tied the contest at 19:14 on a blast from Hauswirth beating Royals goaltender Matt Dalton over the left shoulder. Forward Trent Campbell and defenseman Grant Farrell earned assists on Hauswirth's eighth goal of the season.
The Stingrays continued the scoring into the second period with Hauswirth's second goal of the night at 14:01 from Campbell. Royals forward Ben McLeod made it 2-2 at 14:57 knocking in a loose puck between the legs of Stingrays goaltender Shane Connelly. Forwards Mac Cavosie and Bryan Ewing recorded assists. The Stingrays reclaimed the lead on the power play at 18:50 as rookie Rob Ricci buried a rebound over the left pad of Dalton along the right-wing post. Hauswirth and forward Gregg Johnson assisted on Ricci's 17 goal of the season.
Royals forward Ben Gordon tied the contest 8:00 into the third period from forward Olivier Labelle. Stingrays rookie Dain Prewitt made it 4-3 moments later tipping in a pass from forward Trevor Bruess under the glove of Dalton at 15:07. Bruess iced the contest for the Stingrays with and unassisted empty-net goal at 19:04. Connelly earned his ninth win of the season and second straight against the Royals stopping 27 of 30 Royals shots. Dalton suffered his second straight loss pushing aside 37 of 41 Stingrays chances. The Royals ended the contest 0-for-5 on the power play while the Stingrays finished 1-for-3.
The Stingrays wrap up their three-in-three home weekend Sunday, January 24 against the Wheeling Nailers at 4:00 p.m. at North Charleston Coliseum.
