Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (24-10-2-1, 51 points) knocked off the Victoria Salmon Kings (23-15-4-0, 50 points) 4-3 in overtime in front of 5,910 fans at Rabobank Arena Friday night. D Mark Mitera netted the winner in overtime and F Stephane Goulet tied the game at three in the final 48 seconds of regulation to extend his point streak to a season-high 12 games.
Bakersfield was the first to light the lamp in a high-tempo opening frame. C Adam Naglich ripped home his fifth of the season at 4:47, shorthanded, to give the Condors the 1-0 advantage. Victoria tied it up at 6:35, with C Adam Taylor pouncing on a loose puck in front of the net. The Condors regained the advantage later, though, with RW Ryan Menei notching his ninth of the year by banging in a rebound at 9:39. The two clubs both had 12 shots in the period.
Victoria tied it up with the only tally of the middle stanza. F Andy Brandt fired a wrister through Condors G Timo Pielmeier at 4:12 to make it 2-2. The Condors pelted Salmon Kings G David Shantz with 14 shots in the period, and led 26-21 through 40 minutes of play.
The game turned defensive in the third period with neither team budging until late in the frame. D Brandon Roach punched home a rebound with just 2:48 left in the third period to make it a 3-2 Salmon Kings lead. But just like they did on Saturday, the Condors pulled Pielmeier for an extra-attacker and the gamble paid off. A fortuitous bounce off of the linesman's skate led to a 2-on-1. Naglich made a perfect feed across to Goulet, who banged the puck past Shantz for his 15th goal of the season with less than 48 seconds to play in the final period of regulation. After 60 minutes of play, the Condors led in shots 33-25.
As the teams appeared destined for their second straight shootout, Mitera had other intentions. After a crisp pass across the blueline from D Eric Regan, Mitera fired a shot from the point that tipped off a Salmon Kings defender and past Shantz with 1:09 left in overtime.
