Wranglers Shut Down by Steelheads, 4-1

Boise, ID - The Las Vegas Wranglers® (17-19-4, 38 Points) were defeated by the Idaho Steelheads (26-11-2, 54 Points) 4-1 in front of 5,087 fans Saturday night at the Qwest Arena. Forward Mark Derlago led the way for Idaho with two goals in their 26th win of the season. Forwards Tyler Spurgeon and Brandan Kushniruk also scored for the Steelheads. Goalie Richard Bachman stopped 17 of 18 shots in the win. Wranglers goalie Michael Ouzas made 34 saves in the loss. Forward Shay Stephenson scored the lone Las Vegas goal. The Wranglers will take on the Steelheads in Idaho Sunday, January 24th at 8:10 p.m. at Qwest Arena.

The Steelheads opened the scoring 12:57 into the first period with a tally from forward Mark Derlago. Forward Evan Barlow set up Derlago's 13th goal of the year to give Idaho a 1-0 lead.

After a scoreless middle period, Idaho added to the lead just 19-seconds into the third with a goal from forward Tyler Spurgeon. Spurgeon's fifth goal of the season came with the man-advantage to give Idaho a 2-0 lead. Just 22-seconds later, the Wranglers chipped into the lead with a tally goal from forward Shay Stephenson. Stephenson's fifth goal of the year cut the Idaho lead to 2-1. At 10:53, the Steelheads regained a two-goal lead with Derlago's second goal of the game. Idaho forward Brandan Kushniruk stretched the lead with just 2:42 remaining in the game, tallying his seventh goal of the season. Idaho out shot Las Vegas 13-2 in the third period, en route to the 4-1 Steelheads victory.
