
Stingrays Release Season-Opening Roster

South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL) have announced its Season-Opening Roster in conjunction with the ECHL. The Stingrays open the 2015-2016 regular season on Saturday as they host the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m.
ECHL teams may carry a maximum of 20 Players on the active roster, no more than 18 of whom may be skaters, at any one time. For the first 30 days of the regular season, teams can carry a maximum of 21 Players on the active roster, no more than 19 of whom may be skaters, at any one time. Teams are permitted to carry up to two (2) Players at a time on the Reserve List, while an unlimited number of players can be placed on the 21-day Injured Reserve.
Returners on the Season-Opening Roster include forward Patrick Gaul, skating in his fourth season with the Stingrays, and Joe Devin, who played a large role in the club's playoff run last season. Brett Cameron returns to the team after joining the Stingrays late last year following his NCAA career at Alaska-Anchorage. On the blue line, Wade Epp and Marcus Perrier return, as does Brendan Ellis, who missed all of last season due to injury.
New additions include veteran goaltender Mark Dekanich, who has seven years pro experience and made his NHL debut with the Nashville Predators in 2010. His goaltending partner Vitek Vanecek is just 19-years-old and was a second round selection of the Washington Captials in the 2014 NHL Draft. Joey Leach and Bobby Shea, a pair of defenders assigned to the Stingrays from the club's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hershey Bears, add professional experience to a strong blue line.

The Stingrays open the regular season this Saturday, October 17 versus the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m. The club is hosting Mother Emanuel AME Church Family Night honoring the "Charleston 12" impacted in the June church shooting. Survivors of the incident will be on hand, and the Stingrays will wear special Charleston Strong jerseys that will be auctioned off online with proceeds going to the children of the victims. The night also features a Magnetic Schedule Giveaway to the first 5,000 fans courtesy of Savage Law Firm and FREE parking, as well as an Alumni Game at 2 p.m. Tickets are for sale via Ticketmaster or at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office.
