Pair of Former Stingrays Make NHL Debuts for Boston Bruins

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), had a pair of former players make their NHL debuts last night. Forward Tyler Randell and defenseman Tommy Cross both dressed for the Boston Bruins in a 6-2 win at Colorado. Both Randell and Cross played in the Lowcountry during the 2012-2013 season.

Randell, 24, scored his first NHL goal in his debut last night. The Scarborough, Ontario native appeared in 22 games with the Stingrays during the 2012-2013 season, scoring two goals and two assists. He was recalled to Providence of the American Hockey League (AHL) that season, and has been skating with the Bruins' top affiliate for the past two years.

Cross, 26, kick-started his professional career in South Carolina after four years at Boston College. As a rookie with the Stingrays in 2012-2013, Cross scored an impressive 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) in 24 games with the club. He has spent the past two and a half seasons playing with the Providence Bruins of the AHL.

The Stingrays were affiliated with the Boston Bruins from 2012 through the 2014-2015 season.

The ECHL has advanced 573 former players to the NHL including 30 who played in the Lowcountry. Including Randell and Cross, four former ECHL players have already made their NHL debuts this season.

The Stingrays open the regular season on Saturday, October 17 versus the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m. The club is hosting Mother Emanuel AME Church Family Night honoring the "Charleston 12" impacted in the June church shooting. Survivors of the incident will be on hand, and the Stingrays will wear special Charleston Strong jerseys that will be auctioned off online with proceeds going to the children of the victims. The night also features a Magnetic Schedule Giveaway to the first 5,000 fans courtesy of Savage Law Firm and FREE parking, as well as an Alumni Game at 2 p.m. Tickets are for sale via Ticketmaster or at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office.
