
Stingrays Fall to Road Warriors 4-1

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (19-20-1-3) fell to the Greenville Road Warriors (25-14-2-1) 4-1 at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday night.
The Road Warriors opened the scoring 1:23 into the first period when forward Levi Nelson skated out of the right-wing corner and fired a wrist shot past the blocker of Stingrays goaltender Ryan Zapolski (L, 23 saves on 26 shots) from the bottom of the faceoff circle.
Road Warriors forward Jordie Johnston made it 2-0 at 4:16 of the second period tipping a shot from defenseman Steven Delisle over the right shoulder of Zapolski. ECHL All-Star Mike Marcou made it a three-goal advantage at 8:48 with his fifth goal of the season.
Forward Patrick Gaul put the Stingrays on the board with his first ECHL marker at 12:19 of the third period rifling a shot over the glove of Road Warriors netminder Nathan Lieuwen (W, 30 saves on 31 shots) with help from forwards Hunter Bishop and Chris Langkow. Forward Bretton Cameron sealed the victory for the Road Warriors with an empty-net power-play goal with 21 seconds to play. The Stingrays ended the night 0-for-3 on the man advantage while the Road Warriors went 1-for-4.
The Stingrays continue a seven-game homestand tomorrow, Saturday, January 19 against the Florida Everblades on Wounded Warriors Night presented by SAIC at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans receive a free Snuggie presented by the USO and SAIC.
