Gladiators Add Awe and Guimond

Defenseman Sasha Guimond has been assigned to the Gladiators from the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League. In a separate transaction, the Gladiators have signed defenseman Jon Awe.

Guimond was scoreless in two AHL games with Worcester. He earned 25 points (seven goals, 18 assists) in 33 games this season with San Francisco. Guimond was acquired by the Gladiators in a trade along with Justin Bowers from the Bulls on Monday, January 14th in exchange for Cody Carlson, Christian Ouellet and Rylan Galiardi.

The Ville-Marie, Quebec native earned 41 points (7 goals, 18 assists) in 33 games with Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last year. He also earned two points (one goal, one assist) in eight playoff games with Baie-Comeau last season.

Awe returns to Gwinnett as he skated with the Gladiators from 2005-2008 and compiled 101 points (43 goals, 58 assists) in 123 career games. The Memphis, Tennessee native also holds the ECHL record for most power play goals by a defenseman in one season as he notched 18 with Gwinnett in 2006-07.

Awe skated overseas in Korea and Italy from 2008-2012. Last year with Valpellice in Italy, Awe earned 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 25 games.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound defenseman skated with Portland, Providence, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Houston and Chicago of the AHL from 2005-2008. In 84 career AHL games, Awe compiled six goals and 21 assists for 27 points.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
