The Gwinnett Gladiators (25-15-1-1) dropped a 3-2 decision to the Florida Everblades (19-13-3-4) at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Friday night. With the loss, the Gladiators slipped into second place in the South Division as the Greenville Road Warriors posted a 4-1 win over South Carolina to move into first place in the division.

Florida jumped out to a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first period. Mathieu Roy danced through the Everblades defense before slipping the puck past Gwinnett netminder Mike Lee.

The Gladiators got the second period off to a great start on Jon Awe's first goal of the season just 40 second into the stanza. Awe posted the unassisted goal came as the puck rebounded off the leg of an Everblade in the slot.

Everblades defenseman Ryan McGinnis answered for Florida midway through the second period as he beat Lee off a weird bounce off a stanchion and into the back of the net.

Joey Haddad answered with a tally 11:51 into the second to tie the score two. The goal came on an odd man rush with Andy Brandt as Haddad elected to take the shot and beat Nagel glove side. Casey Pierro-Zabotel and Awe both picked up an assist on the play. The marker was Haddad's third goal of the season.

Brody Sutter scored the game-winning goal for Florida as he beat Lee 12:57 into the third. Sutter's goal game unassisted for the Everblades.

Lee made 23 saves in the game for Gwinnett while Nagel stopped 36 of Gwinnett's 38 shots.

The Gladiators travel tomorrow to Greenville, SC to face the Greenville Road Warriors at the Bi-Lo Center. The Gladiators then return to the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Monday, January 21st for a rematch with the Greenville Road Warriors.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
