Greenville, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (27-19-1-1) wrapped up a season-long six-game road trip with a 2-1 victory over the Greenville Road Warriors (29-17-1-1) at the Bi-Lo Center Wednesday night.
After a scoreless first period, Stingrays forward Jake Hauswirth lit the lamp at 9:15 of the second frame snapping a wrist shot under the stick of Road Warriors goaltender Nic Riopel from the top of the right-wing circle. Forward Matt Scherer picked up the lone assist on Hauswirth's eighth tally of the season.
Road Warriors forward Marc-Olivier Vallerand tied the contest 2:55 into the third period slipping a shot over the right pad of Stingrays netminder Shane Owen from the bottom of the right-wing circle. Forward Jacob Lagace and defenseman T.J. Reynolds earned the assists. Seconds later, forward Tommy Goebel put the Stingrays up for good with an unassisted marker at 3:11.
Owen registered the win in his Stingrays debut stopping 24 of 25 Road Warriors shots. Riopel suffered his third straight loss to the Rays blocking 28 of 30 opportunities. The Stingrays finished the night 0-for-6 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-3.
