Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, announced today they have signed F Tibor Varga.
Varga, 25, comes to Bakersfield after skating for the Rome Frenzy of the Federal Hockey League. In 45 games with Rome, Varga racked up a whopping 72 points on 27 goals and 45 assists. He also acquired 46 PIM in those games. Varga's 45 assists also places him first in the league. He started off the Federal League season with a 4 goal, 6 point effort on Opening Night with Rome, and has had multiple-point games 19 times this year.
It was his first taste of North American hockey, as he spent the previous nine seasons in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In 72 games in the top Slovakian league, Varga notched two assists. He appeared in over 240 games in European leagues prior to coming to North America.
What Marty says:
"He's a kid that's very talented. He's been playing in a single A league (the Federal League) and dominating, so we felt that he is a kid who can play at our level. We're a little bit short right now, and you never when we will have guys going up to the AHL."
Condors return home after road trip:
The Condors head out on the road to Idaho this week, but return for a four-game homestand starting Feb. 15 against Victoria. That weekend, the Condors host Ontario for three games in three nights, with three big promotions!
Friday, Feb. 18 marks the return of Quick Change, and their amazing outfit-changing magic act that earned them a spot in the finals of "America's Got Talent." Quick Change appears courtesy of Bright House Networks and KERN Newstalk 1180.
Saturday, Feb. 19, one of America's favorite crime fighters comes to Condorstown - Spider-man, courtesy of My 45, 92.5 La Campesina and Farmers Insurance. He'll pose for pictures with fans in the Condors Photo Booth.
On Sunday, Feb. 20, in a special 6 p.m. start time, the Condors continue their pursuit of taking over your bathroom, with Shower Curtain Giveaway for the first 2,000 households at the game, sponsored by Cal Water.
