South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Matt Reid tallied two goals and Davis Parley made 41 saves to lead the South Carolina Stingrays past the Augusta Lynx 4-2 in front of 4,089 fans at the North Charleston Coliseum.
"We showed what we're made of tonight," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "It was a nice victory. Reid was excellent, goaltending was huge and the guys deserved this win. We'll look to continue this trend tomorrow at home against Gwinnett, but it won't be easy."
South Carolina (3-2-0, 6 points) hit stride on the power play at 3:43 of the first period. Reid deposited his sixth goal of the campaign beating Brett Jaeger, assisted by Evan Schwabe and Ryan Bennett, who played with Augusta last season.
The Stingrays made it 2-0 on a fortunate bounce. On the penalty kill, Cam McCaffrey dumped the puck from center ice, Jaeger got a piece of it but it skipped over his shoulders and dribbled over the line. Jamie Fraser and Bryson Busniuk collected assists.
South Carolina continued its momentum in the second period. Reid let go with a shot from the top of the left circle and sailed a shot over the left shoulder of Jaeger for his ECHL-leading seventh goal of the year to make it 3-0. Schwabe and Bennett had the helpers.
Augusta (2-2-0, 4 points) solved goaltender Parley at 10:29 of the second. Mike Erickson fed rookie Dirk Southern, who netted his first professional goal on a shot from the slot.
Stingrays took command late in the second on the power play. Chris Chaput scored from the backdoor off a pass from Cail MacLean to make it 4-1. Fraser also registered an assist on the goal.
Augusta's Jason Platt recorded a goal on the man advantage at 16:48 to round out the scoring.
South Carolina went 2-for-7 on the power play, while Augusta tallied on 1-of-9 chances with the man advantage. Lynx outshot the Stingrays 43-29.
The Stingrays wrap up a five-game homestand with a tilt at 4 p.m. on Sunday against the Gwinnett Gladiators. Following the game, it's Trick or Treat with the Rays. Kids are encouraged to dress up and collect candy from the Stingrays players in a safe environment.
In addition before Sunday's game, the Stingrays will welcome their three millionth fan in team history. The lucky fan will win a free trip consisting of seven days and six nights to Kissimmee, Florida, courtesy of Celebration World Resort.
