Stingrays Acquire D-Man Messier

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/General Manager Jared Bednar announced today that they have acquired defenseman Lyon Messier. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Messier, acquired by the Stingrays on Feb. 26, has played 28 games with the New Mexico Scorpions of the CHL getting one goal and six assists while picking up 26 penalty minutes. He played one game with the Charlotte Checkers this season before signing with New Mexico.

Prior to turning pro, the Dallas, TX native played most of the 2007-2008 with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL where he tallied five goals and twelve assists in 46 games, to go along with 45 penalty minutes.

The 6'1" 175 pound blue-liner participated in the National Hockey league Prospect Camp this past September as a member of the New York Rangers. Lyon is the son of NHL Hall of Famer Mark Messier.

Only a few more days until the Stingrays paint the ice pink for Pink in the Rink night on Saturday, February 28th to help support the American Caner Society.
