The Condors Fat Tuesday Canned Food Collection, sponsored by My 45, 106.1 KRAB Radio and Orion Payment Systems, at last Tuesday's game resulted in the donation of 2,020 pounds of nonperishable food items, making it the second largest canned food collection in Condors history! The Condors all-time total for pounds of canned food collected now exceeds the seven-ton mark!
The Boy Scouts of America assisted the Condors in collecting the food, which was then distributed to the Kern County Food Bank and Golden Empire Gleaners. "The food bank was somewhat depleted," said Linda Alvarez, Kern County Food Bank Warehouse supervisor. "Your donation of food items will really help the people of Kern County - thank you to everyone involved!"
Condorstown comes together for Hockey-Thon
The 5th annual Condors Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon went off with a bang last weekend! While the total amount raised is still being tallied, what is known for sure is that all involved had a great time and raised considerable funds for Links for Life, to assist in the battle against breast cancer.
The Hockey-Thon boasted over 100 participants, ranging from age six to 60, playing throughout two nights. The 41-hour hockey marathon was highlighted by two afternoon Condors games, as well as a first-ever Condors Alumni vs. West Coast All-Stars Alumni game to help conclude the weekend's festivities on Sunday.
Each participant received pledges and raised a minimum of $250 to play in the Hockey-Thon. During Sunday's Condors game, live and silent auctions also took place, giving fans the opportunity to bid on game-worn Condors Alumni jerseys, great sports memorabilia and other non-sports items, all to help raise funds for Links for Life.
Keep an eye out for a complete recap of last weekend's event on Bakersfieldcondors.com. Tip-A-Condor is right around the corner!

R&D Leather Furniture and the Condors have been long-time partners, and provide fans with two great promotions at The Nest! R&D Leather Furniture sponsors the Condors Toy Drive, which takes place each year just before Christmas. The toys are then donated to less-fortunate children in Kern County for the holiday season. R&D is also the proud sponsor of the Best Seat in the House, a plush leather sofa atop section 101, offering lucky fans a great view and premium comfort!
R&D Leather Furniture is proud to announce its "NOT Going Out of Business" sale. R&D believes that as long as it conducts business with integrity and in an honorable manner, while providing quality furniture at a good price, then the current economy will have little effect on them, as they look to make 2009 the best year yet.
"The main reason we have partnered up with the Condors is because they are always out in the community and willing to do anything that will help the community," said R&D Leather Furniture Owner Ramona Freeze. "We also love how the Condors help us reach another generation, which is something we are always trying to do."
Remember, nothing beats the feel of real leather and nobody beats R&D's prices! Stop by to check out their selection at 2180 Wible Rd., or visit them on the web at randdleatherfurniture.com. Condors Trading Cards Coming Soon!
