Sting Roll in Guelph

Guelph, ON - After coming off of a 2-1 victory on Wednesday over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, the Sarnia Sting travelled to the Sleeman Centre for a Friday night matchup against the Guelph Storm. The Sting skated away with 6-2 victory and tie the Windsor Spitfires for first place in the West division.

Nikita Korostelev returned to the lineup Friday night after missing 15 games due to injury, and made an impact early for the Sting opening the scoring on the powerplay. Jordan Kyrou and Josh Jacobs were given the assists on the goal. The Guelph Storm ran into penalty trouble in the first period taking a total of 4 penalties of the period. The Sting outshot the Storm 15-12 in what was a period dominated mainly by the Sting.

The Sting continued their dominance in the second period keeping the puck in the Storm end, and testing Giugovaz with a high amount of shots. Nikita Korostelev scored his second goal of the game on cross ice pass from Travis Konecny, followed by goals coming from Jordan Kyrou, 2 from Travis Konecny, and Patrick White to give the Sting a 5 goal period. The Sting controlled the offensive play throughout the period, hungry for the win that would tie them for the division lead with the Windsor Spitfires.

The third period unlike the rest, was quiet for the most part. The Storm got on the board early on a goal from Luke Burghardt who beat Fazio over the shoulder. Justin Fazio got the call for the Sting tonight playing his second game in 3 days and stood tall stopping a Storm offense that created a high amount of shots throughout the game. The Sting played a more defensive game as apposed to the earlier offensive outburst.

The Sting swept the 3 stars of the game that were awarded to Travis Konecny, Nikita Korostelev, and Kevin Spinozzi.

Justin Fazio stood tall for the Sting making 35 saves on 37 shots shutting down the rallying Guelph Storm in the third period, and making key saves to hold the lead for the Sting.

Michael Giugovaz made 25 saves on 31 shots and was tested often by a hot Sting offense that made held the puck in the Storm zone for a majority of the game.
