Ottawa 67's News Release
The Ottawa 67's continued to sizzle Friday night, extending their winning streak to three games with a 3-0 shutout win over the Oshawa Generals.
Goalie Leo Lazarev backstopped the Barber Poles to victory with his third shutout of the season, stopping all 31 shots he faced. The win also extended another streak -- the 67's have now defeated the generals in all six meetings this season.
Kicking off the first of three home games over the Family Day long weekend, the first period was scoreless despite a couple good chances by the 67's. Travis Barron was denied by Generals goalie Jeremy Brodeur on a breakaway shortly before leading-scorer Dante Salituro rang a shot off the post. Lazarev was kept busy through 20 minutes but turned away all 12 shots Oshawa sent his way.
The second period again showcased two goalies at their best with chances both ways before Nathan Todd was able to break through, crashing the net and converting a pass from Salituro for his 11th goal of the season with less than eight minutes to play in the middle frame. Salituro's assist extended his point-scoring streak to 11 games (7G-10A-17 points).
Brodeur kept his team in the game for much of the third but wasn't able to stop Travis Barron from adding the insurance marker, his 10th of the season, with less than two minutes to play. Defenceman Stepan Falkovsky scored his eighth of the year with less than a minute to go with Brodeur on the bench in favour of an extra attacker.
67's head coach and general manager was happy with his team's performance, which has them just two points back of North Bay in the Eastern Conference, though the Battalion has two games in hand.
"We found a way to win tonight and found our legs," he said.
Brown and his players were also happy to have Drake Rymsha back in the lineup after the forward missed 34 games due to injury.
"I thought he was tremendous tonight for being out three months," Brown said.
