(Peterborough, ON) - The Honourable Maryam Monsef, Peterborough Member of Parliament and Minister of Democratic Institutions, performed the ceremonial puck drop with members of the Alftih family, who recently moved to Peterborough from Syria as refugees.

Monsef, who is the first Peterborough MP to serve as a cabinet minister since the 1970s, was joined by Mohamed Alftih and his sons Ghaith, Karim, and Omar, along with other members of the Peterborough community.

The Alftih family enjoyed the Petes game as some of the 120 recipients of tickets donated by Kawartha TV & Stereo to the New Canadians Centre and Big Brothers Big Sisters Peterborough. The family moved to Peterborough in January, 2016 from Lebanon as Syrian refugees.

Tickets are still available for next Monday's Family Day game and Skate with the Petes by visiting the PMC Collins Barrow Box Office online, in person, or by phoning (705) 743-3561.
