Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - In his debut at the High-A level, right-hander Jonathan Stiever allowed just one run across seven strong innings to propel the Dash to a 3-1 victory over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Monday night at BB&T Ballpark.
After being promoted to Winston-Salem (2-3, 40-29) on Thursday, Stiever (1-0) was unphased by the new level. The former fifth-round pick retired the first eight Myrtle Beach (0-5, 21-51) hitters he faced and did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. Overall, Stiever allowed just one earned run on five hits while striking out seven and walking just one hitter.
The Dash took an early lead against Pelicans starter Javier Assad. To lead off the bottom of the second, Zach Remillard reached on an infield single. Craig Dedelow then smacked a double off the wall in left field, but Remillard was thrown out trying to score on the play. The play at the plate allowed Dedelow to reach third before JJ Muno drove him in with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.
Myrtle Beach tied it up against Stiever in the top of the fourth. Zach Davis led off the frame with an infield single, the first hit of the game for the Pelicans. Following a flyout by Jimmy Herron, Miguel Amaya doubled into deep right-center field to score Davis and tie the contest at one.
With the game tied at one in the bottom of the seventh, Dedelow came through with a clutch hit. To lead off the frame, the lefty slugger crushed a solo home run onto the concourse in right field to give the Dash a 2-1 lead.
Following Dedelow's home run, Muno was hit by a pitch. Jordan George then delivered a hit-and-run single into center field, allowing Muno to reach third. With runners at the corners, Evan Skoug grounded into a fielder's choice to score Muno and make it 3-1.
In relief of Stiever, Bennett Sousa and Will Kincanon each worked a scoreless inning to close out the ballgame.
Winston-Salem continues its three-game set with Myrtle Beach at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night. Right-hander Kade McClure (1-0, 0.50 ERA) is set to take the hill for the Dash against fellow righty Paul Richan (6-3, 4.40 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.
Promotions for the remainder of the series against Myrtle Beach include $2 tacos on Tuesday and throwback Warthogs jerseys for Wednesday. For tickets and more information, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
