(New Britain, CT)---Zach Stewart allowed one run, unearned, on just two hits in a dominating performance as the Fisher Cats opened a series in New Britain with a 7-3 win over the Rock Cats on Monday night. The win was the milestone 500th in the history of the franchise.
Stewart (1-1) retired the first 13 batters he faced before allowing a single in the last of the fifth inning. He did not walk a batter and struck out five.
The Fisher Cats (6-5) would pick up all of the offense the team would need in the top of the third inning, scoring a season-high five runs in the frame on four hits. Jonathan Diaz drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on an infield single by Anthony Gose. Mike McDade (2-for-4) doubled to the wall in right center to make it 2-0. Moises Sierra (2-for-4, 2 RBI)then picked up his first two RBI of the season with a single to make it 5-0.
New Britain (7-4) scored its run against Stewart in the bottom of the fifth inning. Joe Benson picked up the first hit for the Rock Cats, and Evan Bigley followed with a single. Mark Dolenc reached on an error, allowing Benson to score.
David Bromberg (1-1) worked the first seven innings for New Britain, allowing seven hits and five runs. He walked one and struck out three.
In the top of the eighth inning, d'Arnaud hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot to make it 6-1. Nanita, Sierra and Mark Sobolewski then hit consecutive singles to make it 7-1.
