Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - The Harrisburg Senators used three doubles, three triples and two three-run innings to defeat the Altoona Curve at Blair County Ballpark by the score of 6-2 on Monday night. The game was the opener of a three-game series on the back half of the Curve's first homestand of the season.

After both starting pitchers worked three scoreless innings to start the game, Curve (5-6) starter Bryan Morris was dealt all kinds of trouble in the fourth inning. Tyler Moore got the inning started with a triple to the base of the wall in center before Morris (1-1) issued a walk to Bill Rhinehart. The next batter, Jesus Valdez, doubled to right scoring a run and another run would score as Eric Fryer slipped in right and the Senators (5-6) were out to a 2-0 lead. The inning was capped off with an RBI single by Devin Ivany, helping the lead extend to three.

The Curve and Jordy Mercer had an answer in the bottom half of the inning, as he belted his second home run of the season over the wall in left, a solo shot, and the deficit was cut to two. However, that was the closest the game would get.

Morris had his day ended after four innings and four hits with three earned runs allowed. Tim Alderson and Mike Colla worked a combined three innings of scoreless relief before the visitors added to their advantage in the eighth.

Off Noah Krol, the Senators added three more runs, including one on their third triple of the ballgame, off the bat of Josh Johnson, and the lead ballooned to five runs at 6-1. Krol went the final two innings of the game and allowed three earned runs on five hits.

Brad Meyers (2-1) went five innings and allowed one run as the starter and Jeff Mandel provided two innings of scoreless relief. Miles Durham tripled to lead off the ninth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Quincy Latimore on a great catch in center by Jonathan Tucker. The run made it 6-2, but Hassan Pena finished off the Curve without any further damage.

Both Starling Marte and Durham had two hits for the Curve, but it was the opponents that lit up the box score with six extra-base hits. The loss puts the Curve back a game below .500.

The Curve will offer two-for-one tickets, hot dogs and small popcorn as part of the Two-For-Tuesdays at Blair County Ballpark thanks to Atlantic Broadband and KRAFT Singles for the second game of the series against Harrisburg. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m. with gates opening at 5:30 p.m.

LHP Jeff Locke will take the hill for the first time at BCB in 2011 for the Curve and he will be opposed by RHP Erik Davis for the Senators. Great seats for the ballgame are still available by calling the Curve at 877.99.Curve or by visiting the official website of the Curve www.AltoonaCurve.com.
